Social Skills Groups
Adolescents and children sometimes struggle to communicate effectively with their parents and/or their peers. At Therapy West, we use groups to help clients gain a better understanding of their behavior in a safe and supportive environment. In these groups, a clinician guides the members to shape new adaptive behaviors. Groups are often helpful, in that they provide immediate feedback within a safe, yet real world setting.
At Therapy West, we use groups to help clients gain a better understanding of their behavior in a safe and supportive environment. We offer groups for different ages as well as for different needs (e.g., Kids with ADHD, Preteen Girls). For example, younger children may need help with their tone of voice, greetings, how and when to interrupt, staying on topic, or how to maintain a conversation. Older children may need support with informal vs. formal behavior, keeping calm, dealing with peer pressure or appropriate touch.
